About Kelly Maier
I graduated with a degree in biology, but knew there was another side of me to explore. After moving to the Seattle area, I started looking for artistic outlets. Figure drawing was my first love. I wanted to really represent what I saw. When I decided to paint, watercolor was my media of choice. I gained experience through workshops, how-to books, and many trying hours of practice. In 2007, I decided to move into oil paints. With oil paints, I have found the texture and vibrancy that I was looking for in my paintings. I find I utilize many of the skills I gained from watercolors in my oil painting. I enjoy exploring different techniques but I describe my work as representational with lots of color. I paint figures, animals and landscapes. I work from both life and reference photos. Plein Aire painting is my latest addiction. My paintings are on show at the Arts of Snohomish Gallery in downtown Snohomish, WA. |
